A coat from the other side of the Wall. It carries the woven label of VEB Modell Kleidung, Erfurt, one of the state-owned (Volkseigener Betrieb) clothing factories of the German Democratic Republic, so it was made before reunification.

It’s quietly striking in a way a lot of East German tailoring was. The cut is clean and minimal, with a wide collar that opens into an asymmetric lapel, raglan sleeves, a button front, and tabbed cuffs with buttons. Princess seams through the body give it shape without fuss, and it’s fully lined. A deep navy that goes with everything.
